Problem Statment:
Through a series of artistic activities, students will learn how to create drawings from observation.
Characteristics
of Line
Task:
1. Divide your page into 16 sections (1/4 your page vertically and horizontally)
2. Use the characteristics of line to depict 16 different emotions.
Use the emotion list found here, you will need to be signed into hcpss g suite to access. LInk
Notes:
- Use color if desired
- Do not use only color to describe an emotion that has color in it. For example, do not just make a blue dot for the emotion "blue"

Types of Line
Tasks:

Divide your page into 5 sections

In each section, pick an object and draw it using the types of line we just learned.

Your object must be small enough to draw from observation

Pick something simple, not overly complex

hold the object in your non dominant hand

Tips:
-
CONTOUR: Carefully draw EXTERIOR and INTERIOR lines with attention to detail. Do not pick up pencil
OUTLINE: Draw along the outer OUTER EDGE of an object or thing or its silhouette
Organization: Lines technical. Lines often go past image edge. Exact, defined (use a ruler if needed)
SKETCH: Quick lines that capture the appearance of an object
IMPLIED: Lines that are not actually drawn, but are created by a group of objects seen from a distance. Can be created with value
5 Contour objects
Tasks:
1. Draw 5 different objects using contour lines only. Do not pick up your pencil when drawing contour lines
2. Each object must overlap at least one other object
3. Overall, something must go off all 4 edges of your page
4. Use 2 different drawing utensils
Tips:
-You can duplicate objects
- You can draw them from different perspectives / points of view
- Draw different sizes if nescessary

- Use the images as inspiration
- Do not copy a design or try to mimic it
- Use other methods of visual inspiration (google images, instagram, personal experiences, photographs, etc
Plagiarism in Art
- Directly using another artists idea without altering it significantly
- Copying another artist design
Final Artwork
Criteria:
1. Done on 12x18 paper
2. at least 4 blind contour drawings of face / hands
3. Everything overlaps at least 1 other thing
4. Goes off at least 3 sides of your page
5. Borders that are even
6. 50 / 50 value (with patterns)
