Food Photo Tips / Articles

1. Do your research

Do not reinvent wheel, look at how other people took photographs of the food that you are doing. Take what you like from there images and change what you don't. Figure out how to make it your own. A lot of the issues that can go wrong with food photography stem from inexperience. Look at what others have done so you can see how you want to do yours.

2. Have your sketchbook with you

Why do the research if you are not going to use it.

3. Do not be afraid to improvise

Things will not go exactly to plan. Do not get frustrated by this, embrace it and see what works for you

4. Shoot in the right light

Outside away from direct sunlight works well. Inside a room that gets a lot of indirect sunlight. Cloudy days.

5. Be prepared

You will be shooting at least 3 different photo shoots with your cookbooks with your food. Prepare to shoot all of them back to back, especially if you're using a food that does not hold up well over time (frozen desserts, cheese, pastas etc)

- Make a list of the shoots you want to do and the props that you need
